The history of
the Silleiro Lighthouse
The Silleiro Lighthouse, still in operation today, stands like a watchtower over the bay of Baiona, dominating the landscape and becoming an emblem of the region. This lighthouse stands majestically at the top of the mountain, sheltered by a battery of cannons built at the end of the 19th century, which adds a unique singularity to the environment.
The Silleiro Lighthouse, where this exclusive Boutique Hotel is now located, takes up the baton from the first lighthouse, located at sea level, which was inaugurated in 1862 and was in operation until the beginning of the 20th century. This original lighthouse was essential for navigation in the Vigo estuary, but its location at sea level and the frequent fog made it difficult to see. To solve this problem, the current building was constructed at the top of the mountain in 1924.
O Faro Pequeno
The old lighthouse, younger brother to the Hotel at its feet and under its protection, is now home to a cozy tavern with an Atlantic flavor, called O Faro Pequeno, located at the foot of Los Cristales beach. A small cove of great beauty and full of legends, famous for the small colored crystals that dot its sand. The tavern offers a gastronomic proposal based on local seafood.
